I had the pleasure of photographing, Beverley and Peter’s wedding back in May. The wedding  Was being held at Leicester Cathedral with the wedding reception being held at St Martins house, next door.

  • What was your most anticipated part of the day?

Sharing the day with friends and family.

Did anything unexpected happen? What was the outcome?

Well, it started to rain as we left the Cathedral through a guard of honor by the Cathedral churchwardens. So we were only able to get a few quick photos with the car and then with the full choir before heading back inside. Having said this our photos inside while all of our guests were mingling around and enjoying cake and prosecco worked well. It ensured people were easier to find for group photographs and the backdrop of the inside of the cathedral with the Methodist artwork added interest too.

What ended up being your favorite part of the day?

Standing together on the altar steps, declaring our vows in front of friends and family. After the service meeting friends and family who had come to share our special day with us.

What advice would you give to future couples for their wedding?

Go for the wedding you want not what you see others having and think you have to copy. We were quite clear we wanted a reception with close friends and family as an afternoon tea, but we did a general invite and had cake and drinks for everyone who attended the service.
If you have lots of children fun bags work well to keep them entertained during the reception, and for weeks after.

What was the biggest surprise on your wedding day?

Well, a big surprise was that my colleagues had managed to find Canon Ratty a wedding dress and hid her in the chapel where we were to sign the register. On walking into the cathedral I had done a quick check to see if it was anywhere but then forgot about it until we went up for the register. I didn’t see it until I turned around. It caused much amusement which had the other guests wondering what had happened. It was later brought into the main part of the cathedral as we left the building.

Any advice for those couples planning their wedding now?

Listen to the tips given by the experts you are going to use they know their business, and what will work well.
Don’t be afraid to do homemade things, this can save money, and personalize your day. But don’t underestimate how long it takes to make things and try to get a team of close friends together to help.

How did you feel at the end of the day?

Emotional that so many people had come to celebrate our special day with us.

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?

Sharing our lives and experiences together.

What did you like most about working with Oliver Kershaw Photography?

Experience in wedding photography, getting the best shots in different environments.
Made us feel at ease with the whole photography experience.
During the service, Oliver was sensitive to how he was taking his shots.
